Hungary's first chairlift has rightly become one of the capital's most popular sights and a means of transportation. The Zugliget Chairlift has been transporting hikers to and from János Hill since 1970. The 1040 meter long route is completed in 12 minutes by the small chairlift, which is often seen in the photos.

On the 2,600-meter-long rope, 102 two-seater carriages carry passengers every day of the year, overcoming a 262-meter level difference.

The Zugliget Chairlift was completed on August 20, in 1970. The construction of the cable car based on the German example, was designed by István Hantos, but its construction was carried out during World War II., failed. The Zugliget Chairlift was finally finished in August, 1970.

The area around the János-hill cable car terminal is constantly changing: a recreation park with mobile pavilions has been established, and a look-out point has been created on the former terrace of the former János-hegyi Restaurant, which can also be reached with the chair.

The chairlift is open all year round, every day, but it’s worth checking in which month what is the exact closing time. It is open from 10 am and it can be used completely free of charge with the Budapest Card.
