In the II. district of Budapest the Bartók Béla Memorial House is located in the green area of the district, which is special because it was the last residence of Béla Bartók in Budapest. The artist spent his last years in this building, which gives the location of the museum these days. The museum and concert venue created in the composer’s home is constantly open to this day and welcomes those who want to learn more about the artist and his life. The building, which opened on the composer’s 100th birthday in 1981 and was significantly renovated in 2006, is also a patinated venue for exhibitions and musical events. The building simultaneously wants to preserve the memories of the past, to commemorate the famous composer who used the building as his last residence and to make room for contemporary artists, musicians, music-loving people.
The family-style concert hall, built from the former rooms of Béla Bartók, also serves as an event venue. For many years, it has been the venue for concerts, educational performances, film screenings and museum pedagogical events, mainly dealing with his oeuvre, and hosts a wide range of programs. Not only the promotion of contemporary Hungarian music, but also the embrace of young talent is one of the most important tasks of the institution.
